So You Say You're a Professional Organizer

One question that I get when people ask me is “What I do?” When I share with them that I’m a professional organizer the first thing that they are is “Really, they have people that do that? or they immediately think of the show Hoarders. So I quickly say Yes, we do organizer things and Yes, the show Hoarders was a real show that people experience everyday. It’s amazing to know that many people are in need of organizing but know know who or where to turn to leaves them in a place of clutter and chaos that can affect their emotional, physical, mental and spiritual environment.

So as I’m sitting here saying why not let my ladypreneurs into the secret world of Why A Professional Organizer Are A Girls Bestie. To start, becoming an professional organizer was not an easy feat. Either you love organizing stuff or not. It’s really that simple. Then here comes the hours of organizing  and studying to get ready for the NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers)certification test.

According to NAPO, a professional organizer:

… enhances the lives of clients by designing systems and processes using organizing principles and through transferring organizing skills. A professional organizer also educates the public on organizing solutions and the resulting benefits. Professional organizers help individuals and businesses take control of their surroundings, their time, their paper, and their systems for life.

As professional organizer, there’s an strict code of ethics that we adhere to. Why? Let’s face, you are allowing us to come into one of the most precious spaces that you have…your home and life. While we’re in your personal space all of the characteristic of being a bestie are in the forefront of our minds like being empathetic, willing to listen, being non-judgmental, creative, patient, and trustworthy. Those are some hefty characteristics to have right?

Being able to accomplish task seems to not work for some but having a professional organizing BFF on hand helps motivate, inspire and helps you become a task master. Besides, the saying is true when they say two heads are better than one.

Here’s a little splash of what professional organizer can do for their besties:

  • time management
  • storage design
  • space planning
  • develop an effective filing system
  • control clutter
  • organizing packing
  • organizing closets,basements and garages
  • serve as a coach or mentor to help  guide clients into a organized lifestyle

Beings organized is not just something you pay for; it’s an investment. One thing that I’ve learned over the years, is that investing in the things that have made the quality of my life more enriching in PRICELESS. There’s nothing like living an organized lifestyle.  Life is much simpler and it allows you to place the proper boundaries in different areas of life so that you will not go back to chaos.

Until later… Style+Grit & Grace..Linda

When the Little Girl Within Fades

There’s something about the innocence of being a little girl. Maybe it’s the naive. May it’s the excitements that comes with hearing, learning and doing things for the first time. I know that as a woman and dealing with my issues, I had to take that walk down memory lane to my childhood to deal with some issues, haven’t you?

One thing that I have learned is that with trying to hold the world on my shoulders, be a boss and helping everyone, I forgot what it was like to be that little girl. You know running around like the bills were paid, dancing in the rain and just being carefree. It came to a moment life where I had to stop to smell the roses. Yes, there were no ifs, and or buts about it. What was it, a breakdown!

I remember that day like it was yesterday. As I was getting ready for the day, I walked into the shower feeling a little weird. I started shaking and BOOM started crying uncontrollably.  I tried to cover up the sound with my washrag but only drowned out the sound a little until he walked into the bathroom.

My fiance came running into the bathroom asking what’s was wrong. He even jumped in the shower with me with his clothes on to hold me. I was tired, things weren’t working out in my business, my dad just got out of the hospital and money was going up and down and most of all I kept trying to be superwoman instead of being the little girl that would’ve immediately yelled for help. Here’s five-ways that I’ve implemented in my life so that I would keep the little girl within alive.

  1. Look at Your Surroundings- Our surrounding are the tell-tale signs of internal struggles. Messy houses, bills being paid late, pushing the people you love away and most of all
  2. Learn to Dance Your Own Dance- Only you know your internal song. You know that one that you strut to as you walk down the street or some may say that song that always in you heart. It time to turn that puppy up and dance only how you can.
  3. Become a Snitch- I said it. Snitch on everything that’s bothering you. Tell the people that love and support you when things aren’t feeling right. When you were little, you may have been told snitching was not a good thing but in this case.. tell it all.
  4. Have faith- When you were a kid, I’m sure your when your parents said they were going to do something for you, you believed it. It’s the same with faith, you were told that you can have something, just wait for it to come with expectation.
  5. Take That Cape Off- Even superwoman took that cape off at times and so should you. Hang that cape up and just be a woman, soft, tender yet strong and vulnerable.

Nevertheless, I cried for a full day in bed while sharing my thoughts with my fiance and journal. After a good cry, prayer and good nap. I felt so much better and 10 pounds lighter. until next time.. remember, this is Just Between Us Girls

Time Saving Travel Tips For Women

Life is like a journey, that you’re not always prepared for. When it comes to traveling there’s somethings that us girls are always prepared for and that’s looking cute and and prepared.

One thing that I’ve learned traveling throughout Europe is that there has to be a purpose when packing for your road trip. Besides, who wants to lug around a lot of luggage? or press clothes? Not me. If you’re like me, I prefer to do carry-on instead of checking in bags, unless it’s for a extended amount of time.

But first there’s some prep work involved. So what’s your itinerary? Why are you going to this event? What’s the attire requested? What events are planned?  One thing that I do is call ahead to the hotel to ask what’s available as far as toiletries so that I don’t have to bring much, where’s the nearest CVS store of medications.  All of these question must be answered so the packing is easy peasy.

Toiletries:
Here is a nifty travel bag for toiletries. Plus it gives them the ability to stay upright. Remember, we must have items that fall in line with TSA guidelines. This will hold:

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash.
  • Hair brush or comb, hair ties
  • Deodorant.
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Make up bag. (smoky eye shadow palette, liner, mascara, lipstick, foundation and powder)
  • Face wash and makeup remover wipes and q-tips.
  • Night time Moisturizer/Lotion

Storage
From pants, dresses and shoes, when traveling, look for storage ideas that are compact so they can easily fit into an carry-on or small suit case. Take the storage bags for your underwear and bras.

I found this cute underwear and bra organizer on aleixpress.com. 4days + 4 pairs of underwear and bras. Can’t beat that + it will fit in your suitcase or carry on.  HINT: After, you’ve ran out of underwear, easily slide them into a small makeup bag. This way when you get home, it easy to throw them in the laundry.

Suitcase Packing
Next, we want to fill the space in our suitcase so items don’t shift and get crushed. Lay out all items before putting anything into your suitcase.  This goes for your wrap around  or maxi dress that you can dress up for a night out or little brunch with your girlfriends. Since dresses can wrinkle easy, lay them flat on the bottom of the carry-on or suitcase so the items that you’ll place on top will serve as a wrinkle remover.

Fill the outer area around it with rolled clothes. Rolled clothes include your jeans and t-shirts. Shoes can fill in empty spaces; place socks into shoes or other openings. When packing heel, it’s wise to place insert so that they keep their shape and place them in show bags to preserve their sassiness.

Bonus: Place hanging outfits in dry cleaning bags. Yes, this will reduce friction and wrinkling.

That’s all that I have today. A video tutorial for packing will be up in my Facebook Group, Organized by Linda next week.

xoxo Linda, The Organizing Contess
